Steamed Rose Bun

Youtube has done it again... I made another recipe based on impulse AGAIN!!!... A youtuber uploaded this recipe, Valentines Rose Flower Bun and was circulated in Facebook... So prettyyyyyyyy.... I made my version of steamed rose bun by using this 2 simple ingredients:

Yup..
Pao Flour and good old red food colouring...

Measure 300 grams of flour

Add 2 tsp of sugar

Add a few drops of food colouring depending how intense you want it to be...
and add 150ml of lukewarm water

Okay, here's the hardest part and this step requires strenuous exercise... Once the dough turns sticky, you can start to knead it with your hands... Yes... You need not just 1, but both hands to get it done... Squeeze and knead till it's smooth like Playdough... It took me 30 mins to knead per dough... My hands are actually shaking now...

=_=

Knead me till it's smooth

Next to wrap them in plastic wrap and leave it to rest till it grows x2 of its size

When the dough is ready, roll into long shape and cut into pieces

Use a rolling pin and roll mini dough flat and roll it towards you.

The rose starts to take shape now!

Cut the rolled dough into half and it should look like this

Oil the stainless steel dish and place all your lovely rose buns in

Please excuse of inconsistency of the rose buns

Get the steamer ready and place them all in...

I used 10 minutes to thoroughly cook the buns

The end product

Tada!!

My husband said it's surprisingly nice... He was expecting a failed experiment from the beginning... Hehe... It was quite fun to make and I just love how it turns up... However, once the buns turned cold, it tasted really really bad... Sigh... Need to improvise the dough...

Here's the recipe (yields 11 buns):
- 300gm of Pao flour
- 2 tsp of sugar
- 5-6 drops of red food colouring

Steps:
1. Sieve the flour and sugar into a large bowl
2. Prepare lukewarm water and drop the food colouring in. Mix well
3. Add coloured water bit by bit and stir the mixture constantly
4. Once the dough turns sticky, start to knead with your hands
5. If the dough is too sticky, add in a bit of flour till the texture of the dough resembles Playdough's
6. Roll the dough into a ball and let it rest in the bowl.
7. Wrap it in a plastic wrap and leave it for 60 minutes in a warm place.
8. Once the dough expands into 2 times its size, roll it into long shape.
9. Cut it into 2"x2" size
10. Roll the mini dough flat with a rolling pin and start to roll it towards you.
11. Roll another mini dough and repeat Step #10. Place the dough made at Step #10 on top of the dough and start to roll it towards you.
13. Cut the dough in half.
14. Oil the stainless steel dish and prepare the steamer.
15. Place the buns into the dish and place it inside the steamer and let it steam for 10 minutes.
